How did fall of man begin?
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of
every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not
eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Gen.
2:16-17)
eat - lit.: to eat eat (Hebrew: achol tochel)
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the
trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God
hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
(Gen. 3:2-3)
eat - Hebrew: nochel
We see that Chava (Eve) does not accurately conveys the
words of God. God told twice WHAT they should eat ("to
eat eat" - "achol tochel"), and Chava misses this
a very important repetition and says one word "eat" (nochel).
But regarding the ban, she tightens it: God said: "thou shalt not
eat", and Chava said: "Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch
it", i.e. she tightens ban, as if the spring
compresses. Too she says: "God hath said" (amar Elohim), but not
"the LORD God commanded" (vayetsav Hashem Elohim).
"What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not
add thereto, nor diminish from it." (Deut. 12:32)
"Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be
found a liar." (Prov. 30:6)
