The ancestors of Jewish people
What character traits had forefathers of Jewish
people?
In Torah we can read:
(Gen 17:1) ... the LORD appeared to Abram, and
said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before Me, and be thou
perfect.
(Gen 17:2) And I will make My covenant between Me and thee,
and will multiply thee exceedingly.
Abraham had done all G-d said him.
In Torah we can
read too these lines:
(Gen 15:6) And he believed in the LORD; and he
counted it to him for righteousness.
Faith in Hebrew is emunah. Emunah is
faithfulness, confidence.
Abraham had faithfulness, confidence. Abraham was true,
obedient to G-d.
Isaac and Jacob were true, obedient to G-d
too.
What character traits had foremothers of Jewish
people?
Sarah was clever, eagle-eyed, she had a strong
character.
(Gen 21:9) And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the
Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
(Gen 21:10)
Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the
son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, [even] with Isaac.
(Gen
21:11) And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his
son.
(Gen 21:12) And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in
thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah
hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be
called.
Rebekah was modest, virtuous.
(Gen 24:45) And before I had done speaking in
mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she
went down unto the well, and drew [water]: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I
pray thee.
(Gen 24:46) And she made haste, and let down her
pitcher from her [shoulder], and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink
also: so I
drank, and she made the camels drink also.
- she was
economical:
(Gen 24:20) And she hasted, and emptied her
pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw [water], and drew
for all his camels.
- she was kind:
(Gen 24:25) She said
moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge
in.
During Jewish weddings rabbis said brachu (a blessing) which
Rebekah's family said:
(Gen 24:60) And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto
her, Thou [art] our sister, be thou [the mother] of thousands of millions, and
let thy seed
possess the gate of those which hate them.
Yeshua had
all good character traits which our ancestors
had. Moreover,
(Phil 2:6) Who, being in the form of God, thought it
not robbery to be equal with God:
(Phil 2:7) But made Himself of no
reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the
likeness of men:
(Phil 2:8) And being found in fashion as a man, He
humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the
cross.
(Phil 2:9) Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given
Him a name which is above every name:
(Phil 2:10) That at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and
[things] under the earth;
