Japanese rescuer of Jewish people

In the years of World War 2 Japanese diplomat in Kaunas (Lithuania) Chiune Sugihara rescued thousands of Jewish people who escaped from Poland occupied by fascists in Lithuania. In 1940 he gave them transit visas in order to get to Japan, then to other countries (he wasn't afraid don't obey to Japan government which three times refused to give a permission. http://www.jewish.ru/7043.asp)

" "This was terrible, - Yukiko Sugihara, his wife, recalled during the conversation with a correspondent of... the newspaper "Financial Times"... -
Hundreds of people - men, women and children - were being at the building of consulate in the square. I remember their eyes - tired and desperate. Women were weeping. A small girl was staying in the puddle, she was tired out and frightened. (The newspaper "Ezhednevnie novosti" (Vladivostok (Russia) ) http://novosti.vl.ru/index.php?f=st&t=020208st01)

Of course Chiune Sugihara didn't work alone. A honorary consul of Holland in Lithuania Jan Zwartendijk have done very much for rescue of Jewish people. (http://www.jewz.info/modules.php?op=modload&name=Forum&file=reply&topic=191&forum=2&post=2639&quote=1&mod=40 with a link to 7:40)

Jews were going through territory of former USSR a few weeks, then they left for Japan, then for Shanghai.
Later many of them moved in Israel and USA.

For a long time almost no one didn't know about his noble action. Why? "According to the words of his widow Yukiko, "after return to Japan we didn't say to no one about that took place in Lithuania. We even didn't know whether someone escaped whom visas was given. " In 1968 year only when Sugihara was found with help of Israeli embassy in Tokyo, a former consul knew that his work wasn't vain. " (The newspaper "Ezhednevnie novosti" (Vladivostok (Russia) ) http://novosti.vl.ru/index.php?f=st&t=020208st01)

"Not long ago I was in Israel, and a boy of five or six years old came up to me, - Yukiko Sugihara says. - He said he has survived thanks to my husband who has rescued his grandfather from death. Then I have realized only all Chiune have done. " (The newspaper "Ezhednevnie novosti" (Vladivostok (Russia) ) http://novosti.vl.ru/index.php?f=st&t=020208st01)
