Abraham said to Eliezer:
Gen 24:2 And Abraham said unto his eldest
servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy
hand under my thigh:
Gen 24:3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the
God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the
daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
Gen 24:4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a
wife unto my son Isaac.
Please reread these lines: "... Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my
thigh: And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and
the God of the earth..."
It is a very important question - to marry.
Why did Abraham say so - to go to his country? In Mesopotamia there
was the same idolatry like Canaan, didn't it?
G-d want to save our relatives!
Secondly if Rivka was of Canaan then she
would to have many contacts with her unbelieving relatives.
2Cor 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked
together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
That's why Eliezer was to go the hundreds
km!
THE MEETINGS
NEAR THE WELLS
Did you remember meetings of the heroes of
Bible with their future wives were near the wells? The first meeting
near the well was between Abraham's servant and Rivkah. The second
meeting near the well was between Yacov and Rachel, the third one was
between Moshe and Ziporah.
"And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and
departed; for all the goods of his master [were] in his hand: and he arose,
and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor. And he made his camels to
kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening,
[even] the time that women go out to draw [water]. And he said, O LORD God
of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew
kindness unto my master Abraham. Behold, I stand [here] by the well of
water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water: And
let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy
pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will
give thy camels drink also: [let the same be] she [that] thou hast appointed
for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed
kindness unto my master. And it came to pass, before he had done speaking,
that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the
wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder. And
the damsel [was] very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known
her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came
up." (Gen 24:10-16)
Gen 29:10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban
his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that
Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the
flock of Laban his mother's brother.
Gen 29:11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
Exod 2:15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But
Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he
sat down by a well.
Exod 2:16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and
drew [water], and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.
Exod 2:17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and
helped them, and watered their flock.
The well symbolizes cleanness. A new family
must be pure (spiritually) too and to drink the living water of Yeshua!
"Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to
the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was
there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with [his] journey, sat thus on the
well: [and] it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to
draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were
gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto
him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman
of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus
answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is
that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and
he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou
hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou
that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the
well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus
answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst
again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never
thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water
springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:5-14)
Why were the wives of Esau a
grief of mind to Isaac and Rivka? (Gen. 26:34-35)
Gen 26:34 And Esau
was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the
Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
Gen 26:35 Which
were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
Why were the wives of
Esau a grief of mind to Isaac and Rivka? Because of they were Kanaan.
1Cor 2:14 But the
natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are
foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them],
because they are spiritually discerned.
1Cor 2:15 But he that
is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
1Cor 2:16 For who hath
known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of
Christ.
Seven years like a
few days (Gen. 29:20)
Gen 29:20 And Jacob
served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him [but]
a few days, for the love he had to her.
We see these 7 years were like a few days. Why? Because
of Yacov loved Rachel!
"... Give me
children..." (Gen. 30:1)
Gen 30:1 And when
Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and
said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.
Gen 30:2 And Jacob's
anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, [Am]
I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?
Of course it is important to have children. But we need have
patience!
1Thess 5:14 Now we
exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded,
support the weak, be patient toward all [men].
