"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (nishmat haim); and man became a living soul." (Gen. 2:7)
"But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty (nishmat Shadai) giveth them understanding." (Iov 32:8)
"The spirit of
God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty (nishmat Shadai) hath given me
life." (Iov 33:4)
"The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly." (Prov. 20:27)
the spirit - in Hebrew: neshama
The light brighter,
the more it light all of our hiding places and shows that we need to clear. How
to make the light brighter? To be righteous by faith (tzaddik). More light -
more joy, more life in Adonai! You light himself, and light the others:
9 The light of the
righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. (Prov.
13:9)
4 Behold, his soul
which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
(Habakkkuk 2:4)
17 For therein is
the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The
just shall live by faith. (Rom. 1:17)
"Neshama is the most
elevated and purest aspect of soul and it shines at the deepest core of our
being. "In my body he has kindled a lamp from his glory," begins a
poem by Moses ibn Ezra, referring to the light of the neshama. In the
morning prayers it says "God, the soul [neshama] you have given me
is pure". (http://www.mussarinstitute.org/wisdom-map.htm)
