TARDEMA (A DEEP
SLEEP)
This word "tardema" is
a very important Hebrew word. We see this word seven times in Tanach. When
Adam slept Hashem worked, when Abraham slept Hashem worked etc.
Please read these
lines:
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he
took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and
brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she
shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto
his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. (Gen.
2:21-25)
12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an
horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger
in a land that is not their's, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict
them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward
shall they come out with great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good
old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity
of the Amorites is not yet full.
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a
smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed
have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river
Euphrates:
19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the
Jebusites. (Gen. 15:12-21)
"So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and
they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they
were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them."
(1 Sam. 26:12)
12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little
thereof.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was
before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
17 Shall mortal man
be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker? (Job 4:12-17)
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in
slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the
sword. (Job 33:14-18)
"For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered." (Isaiah 29:10) etc.
This Hebrew word
"tardema" is from Hebrew root "radam" (it means a deep
sleep). See: Jonah 1:5-6; Psalms 76:6; Dan. 8:18-19; Dan. 10:9 etc.
